Israeli Group Awarded Sierra Leone Award for Humanitarian Work

In 2018, IsraAID was recognized as “Outstanding International NGO of the Year” at the Sierra Leone Awards for its efforts in “improving the lives of the poor and those most vulnerable in local communities in Sierra Leone.” IsraAID provided psychological support for survivors, frontline workers, and affected communities in the West African country when it was hit by an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in 2014, and continued psychosocial support efforts after the epidemic died down. The aid group also developed a community-based, youth-led first responders program after mudslides killed over 1,000 people in its capital of Freetown in 2017.
